De Rerum Natura - Gilliatt

De Rerum Natura - Gilliatt

Gilliatt is a woollen yarn of soft French and European merino produced in France in an ethical and ecological way.
The wool consists of a blend of French Merino D'Arles, (Provence, France) and Portuguese black merino from Alentejo, Portugal for the colours that require a brown fleece.

We also stock a limited edition of Gilliatt hand-dyed by La Bien Aimee!

Flocks are raised traditionally and ethically.

For all colours, at least 50% of the wool is certified organic.

An aran/worsted weight yarn that can also be used as a DK weight for some projects by adjusting the needle size.

De Rerum Natura is a wonderful French brand specialising in the production of European merino yarn. Sustainability and transparency are at the heart of the company’s ethos and this translates into every aspect of their business practice.

50% of their wool comes from certified organic flocks raised by transhumance – an ancient practice in which flocks are moved from one grazing ground to another following a seasonal cycle. The rest of their fleece is sourced from small traditional farms chosen for their respect for animal welfare.

Their yarn is spun and dyed in a small mill in Rougnat, France. The mill uses a phyto-purification system to filter their water as well as dyes that are compliant to the norms set by REACH – an EU organisation in charge of regulating the use and production of chemicals in manufacturing.

This is an ethical yarn that is muesling-free

* The colour Emeraude has been found to rub off on fingers when knitting. De Rerum Natura suggest to wash your work several times until the rinse water runs clear and if you have a colourwork project, test the sample beforehand to avoid any colour bleed.
